You have to use this machine the RIGHT way

7/1/2008 - Steven of NV, US writes:

There have been a couple people who posted about this machine who claim to be in good shape but have NO idea how to use this machine if you are athletic. I am a 5'11 male who weighs 185 lbs and in very good shape. If you are already in great shape, this machine is FANTASTIC for running circuit training workouts. The ability to go from one excercise to another instantly without stopping makes for a total burn out. If you use this machine like you lift free weights in the gym, it won't do anything for you. This is a functional machine that requires a different type of excercise completely. As far as circuit training goes..there is no better machine on the market. Some people complain about the lack of resistance in this machine. Again, this is just a lack of knowledge of how to excercise. You dont need MASSIVE amounts of weight to get in really good shape. You only need MASSIVE amounts of weight if you are looking to add big useless competition beach muscles, and you can do that on this machine as well simply by wearing a weighted vest or placing a 25 - 75 lb weight on your lap. If you buy this machine, do a little research on circuit training and focus on diet. It WILL get you in better shape then 99% of the [] crowd.

Well....I thought it was useless

6/30/2008 - Melissa of FL, USA writes:

Contrary to all of the positive comments, I found the machine pretty useless. I am a 5' woman who weigh 135 pounds and I found it absolutely easy to use the machine on its highest setting, just as the video describes. My muscles were not tired out at all. I guess that the machine could work if you have muscle issues or rehabilitation. However, if you have even the slightest bit of strength I don't think it will be effective - just lift free weights, or even a resistance band.

Great Product

5/18/2008 - Joseph of New York, U.S.A. writes:

As one who hates to exercise, I've surprised myself by actually enjoying the workouts on the Total Gym. The product comes as advertised (no assembly required) and provides the opportunity to exercise all of the major muscle groups. The ease of moving from one exercise to another is one of it's best features. I've had the Total Gym for less than a month and can alrady see (and feel) the difference in my body. The only caveat would be that for anybody small in stature to take extra care, as the machine is fairly heavy. Other than that, I find it to be a great product and would recommend it to anyone interested in getting into better shape.

Try It

4/23/2008 - Amanda of IL, United States writes:

I love this product. I have always enjoyed free weights and exercise tapes but after my C-Section I had to take it easy and wasn't able to do any of the workouts I used to do. I used The Total Gym to help me get back into shape. This machine is smooth and compared to most machines, doesn't take up much room. I am trying to get my mom to purchase this machine. She doesn't like to exercise at all and if she does, she wants it to be as easy as possible. My husband also uses it and he's use to heavy free weights. So this machine can be used no matter if you're a beginner or advanced. I definatly recommend this product.

Great

1/15/2008 - Daniel of Pennsylvania, USA writes:

Received this product for my birthday a couple of years ago. Very well built product. This product is heavy and you may need someone to help you move it but it works very well This is worth the 199$ pricetag I would not recommend this for anyone older than 60 years of age

I swear by it

12/28/2007 - Antonio of Illinois, USA writes:

This total gym is the real deal. I get a better burn than when working out with my free weights. It has a excersize chart that attatches to the upright for you to flip and see each excersize in it's correct form. AWESOME!! Not those posters that you put on the wall and then have to squint to see. I mix my training days between my free weights and the total gym. I am 46 and my doctor said that I have the body of a 30 year old.

Addicitive

12/26/2007 - David of Wisconsin, USA writes:

My wife and I highly recommend the Total Gym 14000 - We're both over 50 and got this rugged device just over a year ago and are very pleased. I'm in better shape now than I've been in over 15 years. It gets my heart pumping and keeps me toned in only minutes a day. The Total Gym has been the answer for us primarily because it's so versatile and allows you to focus on different muscle groups with each workout. Just as a warning to the newbie, though - Don't overdo! I injured my left deltoid during my second session by using an incline that my shoulder wasn't ready for.. (Chuck Norris makes it look so easy!) Start with a lower incline and work your way up. It took weeks before I could do any arm exercises again, but I could still work my lower body while recovering from the shoulder injury. Another warning - We found that if we folded it up to store it after each use, (which is somewhat awkward, but doable), that we tended not to be as faithful in getting it out again. If you have the room for it (7ft X 3ft) then get one and get back in shape.

Total Gym 1000

9/23/2007 - Bob of Colorado, USA writes:

This product is still available used, and I would highly recommend it. Like any piece of exercise equipment, it won't do anything if you don't use it. I'm not sure how many other pieces of equipment allow you to use it as an inversion board, but that is a very appealing use of the Total Gym. It is very well made, but be warned: It is also bulky and very heavy.

Total Gym 1700

9/16/2007 - Chris of Michigan, USA writes:

Love it. I have real muscle tighness issues and the Total Gym allows me to work out without straining anything. Years ago I had to use one in physical therapy so I thought about buying one to keep my back strong. I bought the 1700, the other model seemed cheap quality to me. Also the 1700 has all of the right attachments so I preferred that model. The palates video was a big help too. Quality: The ones in the store were beat up and the rollers were bad. I recomend doing the oiling periodically. Overall, I was not sure if I would like it but I am really happy so far.

Best For The Money

9/9/2007 - Chris of California, USA writes:

My spouse & I have had our Total Gym for over 6 yrs. I’ve purchases a Lot of Home Gym Equipment over the years, most is used a few times, then gets sold at a garage sale. The Total Gym is a Keeper! We are complete opposites when it comes to body size – as well as our work-out styles. This is the only piece of equipment that we both like. It “fits” almost any body size & shape. Good for any fitness level (unless you’re Joe Atlas or something) Easy to use & effective. Great piece of equipment at an affordable price.

Outstanding

8/21/2007 - Tyrone of Washington, USA writes:

The Total Gym is the best overall piece of equipment I've ever used although I'm not in love with the back & forth changing setups. I struggle with the pins everytime and when you're tired that is annoying. I discovered that you can increase the elevation & the resistence by placing 4 inch platforms,or phone books underneath the vertical upright. Add the freeweights and you should be more than satisfied. I've had my Total Gym XL now for years and the biggest burn I stil get is in my shoulders simply because of the design and my technique.

Great machine!

6/11/2007 - Janet of New York, USA writes:

I purchased the Total Gym after watching the informercial about 2 years ago.It seemed like a simple way to really get back into shape after the birth of my twins.I tried it a few times, but never really got into a "routine", but I did use it sporatically.I recently purchased Dan Issacson's Body Makeover for Total Gym video , and that made all the difference. Now that I have some instruction, and a video to work out to, I am using it much more frequently. The ONLY thing I don't like about Total Gym is it takes up alot of space. You can fold it up and stand it up,but it isn't very stable when upright.Could be dangerous with kids around. Also, my hair has gotten caught in the tracks a few times. If you have medium/long hair, be sure to wear it up high on the top of your head before laying down on this machine! Ouch! All in all, I do enjoy working out on it and have never had any really sore muscles afterwards..and I feel stronger. The ab workouts and squats are definately easier to perform on the Gym,which is a huge plus.I like it!

Better than going to the gym!

5/13/2007 - Lisa of Utah, USA writes:

I bought my Total Gym about 3 years ago. I also have a gym membership and find that I use the TG far more than the weights at the gym, use the gym for aerobics. For me as a 46 year old woman the TG makes all the difference in keeping me looking good in ways that aerobics alone doesn't do. Also good for helping stave off osteoporosis. I do the TG every other day for 1/2 to 1 hr a day and it's really has created great results. has a good variety of exercises and I can choose to target an area that needs work. Takes the inches off, keeps me good shape year round for the things I like to do such as skiing, hiking and biking. It has lasted well also. I highly recommend it as a way to stay fit that you can really do in your own home.

Total Gym -- The Best

4/14/2007 - Barbara of Maryland, USA writes:

The Total Gym has literally saved my body! I love it and never want to be without it. I've been using it for about a year and a half. Prior to this, I was experiencing increasing muscular discomfort and pain. Now with regular use of the Total Gym, not only am I pain free -- I have my flexibility back. My muscles are firm and I just feel better all over. The Total Gym exercises literally every muscle. Easy to learn how to use. I started with the guide book and videos and now further incorporate my own exercises. Highly recommend this product. I've tried many others, but this is absolutely the best!

Great Product

2/4/2007 - Alice of South Carolina, USA writes:

My husband and I bought the TotalGym around ten years ago. We use it on a regular basis and it has held up well. We had some negatives, but we have noticed the newer models have taken care of those with product enhancements. I would highly recommend.

Total Gym is the real deal

11/29/2006 - Scott of California, USA writes:

This is a good product. This gym is an excellent product that is based off a design sold to professional pilates gyms and physical therapists. They used to pay $2000, and only a few thousand were sold each year. Now that hundreds of thousands are sold each year, they can afford to sell them at this low price. If it sits in your closet, it will not work. If you don't take it out of it's box, it will not work. If you use it every other day, you will get a good workout. So buy one and use it.
