works but unstable

8/31/2008 - melody of maryland, united states writes:

I bought this product about 5 yrs ago. It was very good and was smooth and you could set the handpoles if you didn't want to use it. But the elliptical pedals were unstable, if I leaned or moved a little too vigorously to one side it tipped, and I'm only 4'll and 115lbs. So you have to keep yourself leaning slightly forward to stay balanced. Its okay but I've bought better for the price. I sold it and stuck with a stair stepper, got the same workout.

Love it!

5/10/2008 - Vicki of Tacoma, WA, USA writes:

I have had my OrbiTrek for about five years now, and couldn't live without it. After years of struggling with a weight problem, I started using this machine every day, and the weight started falling off! It took about two weeks to see a difference, and then it really started to come off. I love that it not only works every muscle in my body, but also gives me an aerobic workout, as well, with no impact (I have bad knees). In the beginning, I could barely do two minutes on the lowest setting, and now I do 40 minutes, at medium tension, with power surges every five minutes. The machine is finally starting to wear our after five years of heavy use. I would recommend it to anyone! The four stars is only because it is quite noisy, especially when peddling in reverse, and the wheel frequently needs tightening or it wobbles.

It's Wonderful!

4/4/2008 - Sarah of Idaho, USA writes:

I still use my treadmill but running on it all the time meant less days I could work out because the impact hurt my legs, and really got to my knees. I was so excited to get the orbitrek and once I tried it I was hooked! I love working out on it, I can just watch a movie and time goes by so fast. It gives you a workout without feeling like a workout. My fiance tried it and he couldn't believe for such a small machine (compared to most others) it gave him such a great workout. It's truly amazing!

Very happy with this machine

1/26/2008 - Colken of New York, USA writes:

I've had the OrbiTrek for over a decade (using it regularly for 6 years). Another reviewer had mentioned a problem with the tension being too tight, I had the same problem but my boyfriend adjusted it. This piece is compact and quiet (although now that it's older, it's starting to get annoyingly noisy). I also have a manual treadmill but I definitely prefer the OrbiTrek, nothing shapes your sides better. I paid less than $200 and have logged over 1000 hours on it so I definitely got my money's worth. One thing I will note is that the product leaves black specs on my carpet so I have to move the piece and vacuum them up at least monthly. So, perhaps the newer version (the Platinum one) would eliminate that problem since it doesn't seem to be made of the same material. I've never tried that version so I no opinion on the Orbi Platinum.

Awkward workout, poor design

1/7/2008 - Mel of California, USA writes:

I used this machine 5 times during a two-week stay at my sister's house. She bought it 6 months ago but has only used it a few times, since she can't last more than 5 minutes on it. This machine was insanely awkward and difficult to use. I have very strong legs, but the effort of pushing the pedals and trying to keep myself balanced was almost too much for me as well. The "elliptical" motion is wobbly and jerky -- not smooth and fluid like they show on TV. The handles are awkwardly placed and hard to keep hold of, and don't feel securely attached to the unit. To top it off, the entire unit swayed to and fro the whole time I was on it. I will say this -- the machine provided a very intense 30-minute workout. It really does work your whole body, because your muscles are forced to stabilize you to keep you from falling off or dislocating a shoulder. But it is not a quality product, and I would never have used it had any other equipment been available.

Good but noisey!!

4/11/2007 - Ted of Oklahoma, USA writes:

The OrbiTrek Elliptical was easy to assemble and easy to learn to use. It has been great exercise for the past two years and built solidly but I have two complaints. I start off with the tension belt at a moderate resistence but the resistence increases on its own after about 10 minutes to one that wears me out. My OrbiTrek develops a loud squeak from the handles or pedals that is deafening after about 8 minutes of exercise. I have sprayed a lot of WD 40 with no resullts. Any ideas on a fix?

NOT BUILT TO LAST

12/1/2006 - Scott of California, USA writes:

Very Nice Compact Design BUT This Machine Does Not Last...This is my 3rd Orbitrek via the lifetime warranty and a Very Nice Customer Service Lady...My First Two Orbitrek's had belt & chain problems that rendered the machines useless after just a month or less of use on both....my 3rd Orbitrek (2nd replacement machine) which was in the box for at least a year and just opened and started riding daily for about 40 days now is beginning to show the same symptoms as the previous Orbitrek's with the belt issues and loud noises from within this one also squeaks,WD40 it, but did not work. Will Be Contacting Thane Again to see if my warranty still Applies.

Piece of Junk

2/26/2006 - Diana of New Jersey, USA writes:

This Orbitrek was so hard to peddle that I could barely do it and I'm not that out of shape. I had the resistance on 1 and it was still too hard to peddle. I couldn't last more than 5 minutes on it. Horrible experience. Do not recommend.

Solid machine

1/24/2006 - Samuel of Wisconsin, USA writes:

No one should expect to get a heavy-duty stepper like those at the Y for $180. Nevertheless, this is a solidly built machine that does not seem to be overpriced. I've used my for seveal years without any problems. In fact, the action strikes me as comparable to the expensive professional machines. I question whether the handles do anything for the upper body, and I also find the digital read-out to be tiny, inaccurate, and worthless. But for a good aerobic workout, especially when it's to cold or wet to walk outside, you probably can't do much better for the money.

It Works but is Junk

1/4/2006 - Mike of Massachusetts, USA writes:

I lost around 50 pounds using it, and it did work the only problem was that it wasn't built to last and is not as nice as some other machines like it on the market today. It did take a lot of effort to do and didn't flow as easy as they show
