I hated the product

7/10/2008 - Betty of Houston, TX, USA writes:

My freind order this product and had me try it. I did not like it as all. The spray went into my eyes several tims and i did not like the smell of the products. I noticed after a few hours that skin began to break out so I wash it completely and put [] on my face. I would note recommend this product at all. Oh and if you can find their company go the the BBB.gov you will find the there. These people change company names, address and items often so as to confuse the buyer and keep him at bay from suing. This product sucks!

Great Experience

7/9/2008 - Tara of WA, USA writes:

I did 3 weeks of internet research on Luminess - including calling into customer service choosing different menu options each time to see if a rep would help me as I did my due diligence before committing to buy. Each rep was friendly and I thanked them each time I hung up. Bottom line...I tested out the CS before I bought the product. It passed my expectations. Pros: This will work if you have fairly flawless skin already. If you are looking for a product that will give you full coverage in lightening quick speed, it may not be for you. Once you get the hang of it, the finish is beautiful. It is cleaner than any other make up. It is more natural and hydrating than any other make up. It does not settle in the fine lines of the face as powder make up does. Cons: Squeeze bottles lightly. If not done with ease - they can explode with pressure by human error! Cleaning between each make up application (it is an airbrush) takes time and is not practical for the working woman on the go. Practice on the weekend until you get good enough to incorporate into your weekday/work routine I give this product 4 stars. I give the CS in my experience 5 stars

Contented

7/4/2008 - Livia of Iowa, USA writes:

I have always loved makeup. When I saw the Luminess Air Infomercial, I was really enamored with the product and the promised results. Over time, I have tried different foundations, but I always broke out. I tried mineral makeup, but I still had some issues. It did not last long; whenever I hugged someone, they got a big smear on their clothing, which was, needless to say, very embarrassing. So, I decided to try this airbrush system. I went to the website, which was a bit difficult to navigate, but managed to successfully order the pro-system with a set of four light foundations for one large payment. I will admit it seemed a bit expensive, but I was willing to pay the cash for the results. The product arrived in a decent amount of time, which was nice. I opened up the package, and everything I ordered was included. The assembly was pretty easy; I connected the air hose from the compressor to the airbrush, as well as the AC adapter, without a lot of trouble. The only thing I was disappointed in was the size of the foundation bottles. They are pretty tiny, but it turns out you do not need a lot. It has lasted for a good while for me. However, I do not wear makeup everyday, so I suppose others could use it up much faster. It is very important to watch the included DVD. The demo-woman explained things very well. It took several attempts for me to get things right. Still, I was dissatisfied with blemish coverage, and the blush was just too much. Then, I received my first shipment of makeup from the club. When I signed up, I did not really know what I was in for—another set of light foundation arrived unexpectedly. Each set costs two payments of $29.95 and moisturizer is included. I found this out by calling, which took longer than I would have liked. I was not too happy, but I went with it. Another pamphlet was included, answering frequently asked questions, as well as another demo DVD. These items were just what I needed. On the DVD, the makeup artist from a certain housewives television program showed how to contour your face using three of your four foundation shades—lightest for highlighting/covering blemishes, medium for full coverage, and dark for contour. This DVD also explained how to find your appropriate full coverage shade much easier—by spraying some on your arm rather than smearing it on your face. I sort of came up with a better blemish coverage method through trial and error: After applying moisturizer and letting it sink in, I put about four or five drops of the light shade in the makeup cup. Then, I place the airbrush on the low setting and spray about an inch away from my face. Works like a charm. I usually use more than the suggested six drops, though, between blemish coverage and full coverage. Less is more, though. It is also important that you only pull back slightly on the finger lever. If you pull back all the way, you get a wet, slimy look. I ended up watching some tutorials online on the ever-popular tube, and the demonstrator was doing the exact same thing. This foundation also lasts longer than any I have ever used. The trick is layering; you should not fully cover your blemishes or face in one pass. You cover a blemish somewhat and move on to another spot until you come full circle. This allows the first layer to dry. Then, you start at the beginning, covering the rest of each of your blemishes. Next, you place the airbrush on its medium setting, put in a few drops of the main foundation, and spray it on your entire face from about six inches away using a slow circular motion until you are happy with your appearance. This is how you should do the blush, bronzer, and shimmer—six inches away on medium speed. Otherwise, you might look like a clown. The shimmer liquid is great; it gives your face dimension. If you want to do the whole contouring thing, and do it really well, it takes about fifteen minutes. If you simply want to cover your face, it probably takes five to seven minutes, or less, depending on how good your moves are and how clear your face is. I used to just cover my blemishes and redness with other foundations, but the airbrush provides such light and even coverage that I do not mind covering my whole face. I have received complements about my beautiful skin since using the Luminess airbrush, which is new for me. I get a few zits here and there but fewer than ever before. I suspect it is because fewer bacteria end up on my face because of less contact with the skin. If you want, and often I do, you can use regular blush and bronzer power with this makeup. You should apply it after you let the makeup dry for about five seconds. As far as touch ups go, they are not really necessary. You can touch your face and hug people without fear of smearing. The coverage is that good, unless you have an extremely oily face. My nose is oily, so about half way through the day, I take a tissue and blot it. A little makeup comes off, but not a significant amount. I have not timed the coverage duration, but it lasts a long time. I have even slept in it and woken up looking pretty darn good. I cannot stress enough that you have to clean the airbrush immediately after every use. If you do not, it will get clogged and the makeup will splatter or not come out at all. It is pretty simple to clean. A little bottle is included, and you fill it with two-thirds rubbing alcohol and one-third water. After using the airbrush, you just put in a few drops, cover the protective cap (front end) so the air back bubbles, then you spray it out in the sink, and use a Q-tip to wipe out the remaining makeup. You should also use a moisturizer before applying the makeup. I do not care for the Luminess moisturizer. As I said, I have oily skin, and it made it oilier. I just use my own. This improves your final appearance. It is also extremely important to shake all the foundation bottles for about five minutes to activate them when you first get them. Then, before each use, shake them again. It is a good indicator that a bottle is well shaken, if there is no pink pigment settled at the bottom of the bottle. Eventually, after many uses, the airbrush will become clogged and splatter. The instructions included do not really help a whole lot when it comes to this problem. I did not shake the moisturizer well enough when I first tried it, and the machine became clogged. I watched a tutorial online to learn how to disassemble the airbrush because this was not included in the instructions. Then, I bought a set of airbrush cleaner brushes at my local art store. I feel certain you could find them online. I did not know what the little wrench included was for either, but the tutorial explained that it was to remove the very small internal nozzle. I used the smallest brush to clean the body tube, and it worked wonders. The biggest problem I had was that the second time I went to clean the body tube, I realized the internal nozzle was broken when it would not screw back on. I concluded that it must have been defective. So, I went to my local art store, bought the appropriate size nozzle from a different airbrush name brand for about $40. That did the trick, and my airbrush has worked right as rain ever since. If you have to change your makeup specifications for the club, you have to call customer service, which is a bit of a hassle. The customer service reps are foreign with heavy accents, so it is a bit of a struggle. I was successful in extending the time between deliveries, and changing to just one large bottle of my full coverage color. I might change back though to receive the contouring colors. If you do not join the club, you can order as needed from the now improved website store for a slightly higher price. From some personal research, the price of the makeup is average when compared to other airbrush makeup. Okay. Overall, I had had a few ups and downs in the beginning, but now I adore my airbrush. In my opinion, the final results are worth the money. Ultimately, practice makes perfect. Reading the instructions and watching the DVDs is of the utmost importance. The Internet is also a wonderful tool for supplemental information. I would recommend this product to those who are interested. However, you must be willing to actually take the time to learn how to do things correctly in order to achieve the results shown on the Luminess Air Infomercial.

Product is not satisfactory - can only be used with their product for airbrushing, only a few color tones that did not match skin tones Upon trying to return; the company will not provide a return address and will not provide a refund. i break out from most makeups so i decided this was worth a try, i have also tried mineral makeups and i looked like a ghost lol (and im black!). everythng said about it is true, they will jack the price/shipping costs/etc and then tell you go screw yourself. so seriously you should go to an auction site and order it from there if you are still dead set on trying it. anyway, it didnt work. i looked like a mannequin. really ashy and dry and there was no contour to my face. my cousin works as a makeup artist and helped me, and it still looked like crap. please save your money. go to [] instead.

Why all the negativity

6/13/2008 - marcia of texas, usa writes:

To my advantage I did not read any reviews prior to the purchase of my Luminess Air System. I say to my advantage because if I had read them I would not have bought this product. I am in love with it. I did not get charged the full price like some customers were. When I got the product it conained everthing it said it woul and I watched the video and tryed the system. Nothing was damaged and it worked perfectly. I have to admit I thought the foundation would cost an arm and a leg (they would have to get you somehow) but they actually cost the same as any other store brand foundation would. Everyday I would find my self asking my husband how my make-up looked and if he could tell that I had any one and he would say no. Even my mom stated to me how natural I looked. I would recomment this product to anyone. Even with all the bad reviews there is nothing like trying it for yourself!!!!!

more scam!!!

6/12/2008 - Katherine of Washington, USA writes:

UPDATE: Just to update... I have wasted too much time and money for this company. It is very clear that they are designed internally to not be able to help you unless you are placing an order. Here is my timeline with fool proof from UPS and my phone bill. 5/25: Placed order and was told that with basic shipping, it will take three weeks BEFORE it ships, and I will not be charged until I receive and meaning I have three weeks to cancel. 5/27: Bank statement shows charged! 5/28: I call to cancel and was refused to do so because it had been shipped. (so much for the upgrade shipping option) 6/12: I finally receive the damn thing and tracked via UPS customer service (who Luminess should learn from) that it left their facility on 6/4. You see the clear discrepency in the dates? After I did all my homework, I called and asked about this. First excuse: "Well, ma'am, shipment actually means when the order is placed and label is processed" My answer "I'm sorry, I have never heard of a definition like that. Shipping means when something leaves origin to the the destination. You cannot call it "shipped" if you are still in possession of it" THeir counterargument: "Im sorry maam, well, UPS takes a few hours to get their information right as well" At this point, i realized I was really really wasting my time. And now, I am just going to waste more time and money to return the damn thing. Ive decided to not even open it just to save myself from more scams. I want to get it out of my sight asap. Here are some things you should beware of: 1) the actual product cost 200 plus dollars, so you will be billed for that once trial period is over 2) If you reject the order, they will charge 25% actual price for restocking. (about 60 plus dollars) 3) MUST MUST Return with a RA#!!! and this # is very very time sensitive. If you return but they receive after the expiration date, they will charge you. ALl in all, i just feel bad for the cust. service reps. They are just trained to follow these fradulant practices and must receive a million complaints a day. JUST DONT BUY!!

Scam Alert!!

6/11/2008 - Jen of Washington, usa writes:

I believe this product is a scam. After reading some of the negative feedback about the Luminess Air (unfortunately after I had already ordered it) I decided to check my bank records. Just like what has happened with other consumers, instead of being charged the $29.95 trial fee plus s/h I was charged $313.10!!!!! The full price plus express shipping. I called and they said it was my fault for selecting the box indicating I wanted to make one full payment. Wrong. I chose the one saying trial price of 29.95 plus s/h and then 4 payments there after. What I did not see was on another page they do have a box already selected for you indicating that you want to make one full payment. Make sure if you order that you de-select that box. Thats how they get you . They say it is your fault for not reading everything. Also when you select the extension for a RA#, prepare to wait all day on hold so that you get so frustrated you hang up. You absolutly have to stay on hold to get the RA# if you truely want to get your refund. I'm still waiting to get a RA# so we will see. I have filed a complaint with the BBB but as far a I know that will get us no where. I did tell them that I was going to give as much negative feedback (and truth) as possible. With their false advertising, full charges from your account, iron proof terms and conditions and strict return policy they must be making a killing. All because we wanted to look beautiful without that heavy make-up look. Buyer Be Ware!!!

stay away!!!!!!!!

6/6/2008 - katherine of washington, USA writes:

I cannot stress enough how important it is to stay away, no matter how tempting it is and how they make it seem that flawless skin is just a phone call away. It isn't. This is an illusion and good marketing strategy. You will be making a thousand phone calls because each customer service is so incompetent and will do nothing to help you!! And each one of them will say something different. And do not fall for the upgrade delivery service either. My customer service rep told me that as long as you put in a basic order, it will take three weeks to ship out and so i have that much time before I can cancel because they will not charge until you receive. BIG LIE!! they charge the minute you place the order. And when you call to complain they will tell you that it is because it has been shipped, which sheds light to the whole "upgrade delivery" scam. If i didn't upgrade, then why did it already ship the day I ordered! Horrible product too!! I will stick to Sheer Cover, much cheaper for the quality and the customer service is not bad either (which is rare for customer service these days).

Get A Can of Spray Paint

6/4/2008 - Laura Prince of Texas, USA writes:

I and my 25 year old daughter were very disappointed in the airbrush makeup. We kept adding more and more and more and never got the "flawless finish" you expect. To cover my freckles, I get much better with a bottle of makeup I buy from store at $8.00. When I tried to return the product I called the customer service number, and was put on hold for 78 minutes before I finally hung up. I tried to get the return code number six different times but was always put on hold for eternity, till I hung up. Burned up hours of cell phone minutes. I returned the product at $14.00 shipping charge and had it returned to me because, you guessed it, I did'nt have the return code! They will not speak to you if you tell them you are returning it but will if you call to order it. I've had to change my credit card and work with my bank filing fraud claims against this company because they deducted $90 out of my account before I even had the product for a week. They have since deducted again and my bank is trying to get through to them. I can't even get any response from them on this web site. These are Hollywood scam artist to the max!!! Do not fall for the false advertising as I and others have, or you'll live a nightmare.

6/3/2008 - mj of ca, fresno writes:

ok, i have to comment. before i decided to buy this product, i looked up review. even though 95% of the review were bad, i still went ahead and ordered the pro system with rush shipping. my girlfriend ordered it at the same time i did; her was basic and not rush shipping. we both got ours at the same time. CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCK BIG TIME!!! cons/ lie: don't last all day as they say, must have flawless skin to do well with this product, got acne or other facial problem you on your own this is not going to do shit to cover it or help. foundation is little 3-4 drops is all that is needed my ass, my take on this is if you don't wash your makeup the night before maybe. if you even start to sweat a little bit, say good bye; no say hello to touch up. pros: you don't have to touch your face. i still use my brush for blush. easy wash with just soap and h20. over all this product sucks. sorry for strong language, but got to speak my mind. hopefully someone will listen to these great advise review and take into consideration. don't be stupid like me, yeah i'm calling myself stupid. returning the product, 30 day trail. good luck getting your money back.

I think it's great

5/30/2008 - Tonya of NC, United States writes:

I am 36 and do not have a "perfect complexion." I actually have a bit of rosocea (splotchy redness) I ordered the product by phone, and although they did try to sell several "add-on's" I declined except for upgrading to the "pro-system" which I am very happy with. It was delivered on time. The machine works great and the makeup is the best coverage without looking "made-up" that I have ever tried. It also lasts all day. You can put on several coats if you prefer a heavier "made-up look, or for special occasions. Not to mention that my boyfriend loves the fact that it is not messy and doesn't leave make-up on my hands or around the bathroom. It's neat, clean, fast and excellent results. I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

Continued review

5/17/2008 - Ginger of Michigan, United states writes:

UPDATE: I just complained to the Better Business Bureau about this company. The customer service is absolutely terrible and this company is nothing but a scam. They do mistakes on your credit card, blame it on you suggesting you hit the submit button twice, and keep the "shipping and handling" stating that it's non-refundable. Note for anyone that gets charged twice and had two systems sent to you without your request- You will not get your full money back. Their shipping and handling is "non-refundable". If I hit the submit button twice, the transaction would have showed up back to back on my statement. They two transactions showed up exactly one month apart. They are scam artists! Buyers Beware!

Luminess Air

5/2/2008 - Gina Avalos of CA, USA writes:

I had trouble at the beginning but watched the demo dvd and figured out I was doing it all wrong. Once I actually used it as intended all I can say is I love this machine and how long the make-up lasts and covers my blemishes. I have to use very little and it lasts all day with no retouching. All the machine is expensive but the make-up refills are inexpensive and a little goes a long way. Definitely work it!!!

Not Impressed

4/22/2008 - Michelle of AR, United States writes:

I was not impressed with the makeup! If you have flawless skin this is great for you, but I have an uneven skin tone and slight acne scarring that it did not cover. The makeup was also too dewey, rubbed off quickly and did not camoflage slight eye and smile wrinkles. The biggest complaint I have would be the customer service. If you do attempt to call them plan on holding 15 min before you get through. I returned the product the first of april, 2 weeks after they received my return they charged my card $70 and 2 wks later refunded $29, the rest they claim was for express shipping which I did not request but was a bonus because I went a step above the basic package --- so beware --- they will get money from you, even if you return the product in 30 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Undecided

4/15/2008 - Ginger of Michigan, United States writes:

I recently bought Luminess Air after watching numerous amount of late night infomercials. I am unsure of what to think about this product. It almost seems as if I WANT to like it rather than I really do. The coverage is very light, almost as if you are not wearing any make up at all. Quite literally really. The color of the foundation seems to change colors over time and can be somewhat uneven. I may have gotten the wrong foundation color I admit, but that makes it even worse. Now you can REALLY see how the coverage is and how it sprays. The foundation does not last all day like it states. I am at work so unfortunately I cannot continue my long list but this is only a very small list of things that disappointed me. Customer service is horrible and charged me twice!!!!!

Actually better than I expected

4/10/2008 - Lisa of TX, USA writes:

Was not too sure about Luminess Air since I am a bit unsure to purchase off TV. But I was pleasantly surprised. It took me 2-3 tries to get the hang of airbrushing which probably was my concern if I could do it or not as I have never seen something like this before. I would recommend it to someone who has a few minutes to learn how to use it. I was not using it correctly at first and called the customer service people. Once you get the hang of it as I have achieved, it is rather wonderful. The bronzer is my favorite.
