This is not a replacement for your socket set. But, it's still useful for many things, for example, a square nut. While you can generally find a 12 point socket that will fit onto your square nut, it may take a few tries, with different sockets, before you find one that fits. The GG can take a fair amount of torque, but in most cases it's necessary to break your bolt/nut loose with a proper tool first. The most common scenario that I used the tool was; I had a combination wrench to break the bolt loose, but it was too rusty to just spin out by hand afterward. Instead of searching for the proper sized socket for my ratchet, I'd just grab the GG knowing that it would fit. If I ran into one of these in a store for $5-10, I'd buy it.
Know its limits and you'll be fine

Gator won't loosen wheels bolts and should only be used as a back up to a complete socket set. I have found one bolt that is tucked out of reach that I haven't found a socket that fits. The bolt is to secure my jeeps battery and the bolt is never too tight. Anything else the right size socket is always used.

I have had the gator grip for about four years, and use it every couple of weeks. It is a great tool if you are using it for the right purposes. If you are trying to unscrew stripped screws (which this product does not claim to do) with the gator grip, you obviously don't understand how it works and should have someone else do this work for you. The gator grip is especially useful for items (exercise equipment or big-box furniture) that have various sized bolts. I use it without the ratchet to start many projects, such as installing eye hooks. Also attaches easily to my power drill!

I have owned the Gator Grip for quite some time and I love using it. Although it is hard to fit in some tight spots, it has saved me lots of time. I no longer have to switch sockets. I do a lot of work on cars and it is a lifesaver because there are so many different bolt sizes used in cars today. Great product.

This thing grips NOTHING! A complete waste of money and time. I thought it was a great idea for removing stripped screws, but it does not work on anything.
